Before Help Arrives

One thing you can do before we arrive is pace back and forth and screech, but we don’t recommend it for the following reasons:

• It will upset your pets, family, and neighbors
• It won’t accomplish anything other than raising your blood pressure
• You may end up with a sore throat

Here are some things we do and do not recommend:

• DO remove excess water by mopping or blotting it with towels
• DON’T lift furniture or other heavy objects – water weighs eight pounds a gallon, making heavy jobs heavier, and we have lifts to make it easier
• DO remove lamps and other items from tables, wipe the water
• DON’T use a normal vacuum to remove water (you know that, right?)
• DO move loose items from floors and tables
• DON’T use electric appliances if there is any possibility the wiring is wet (you knew that one too, right?)
• DO remove art objects and other valuables to a safe place
• DON’T leave books, papers, whatnot on wet carpets or floors (yeah, you knew that)
• DO put foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting
